The Byzantine weave is actually part of the European family of chain maille weaves, but I have chosen to list it on its own. Known by other names such as King’s Chain, ‘bird cage’, ‘bird’s nest’, and ‘fool’s dilemma’, Byzantine chain maille is believed to originate from the Eastern Roman Empire and the era of Constantine, the Great. Today, using a variety of base metals (anodized aluminum, copper, brass, bronze, and stainless steel) and precious metals (such as niobium, sterling silver, and gold), I craft Byzantine maille into beautiful anklets, bracelets, earrings, and necklaces.
