CUSTOM Deer Bone Necklace

This is probably the most unique, custom necklace that I have been commissioned to create!

While working as the maille artisan at Meyer’s Wires, a local customer came to us with these pieces of deer jawbone, from the first deer her son had gotten bow hunting. They had bleached and cleaned the bones and she wanted them turned into a necklace to commemorate the event.

My mother and I worked together with the customer,  to come up with a design that was a combination of wire wrap and chain maille and create this one-of-a-kind piece.

My mother wrapped the bones in sterling silver wire, and I attached them to a sterling silver, Half-Persian 3-1, necklace chain. I also hand-drilled the two jaw bones and connected them with a short segment of Byzantine micro maille chain.
